Republican Greg Conlon and Democrat Rich Gordon will vie in November for state Assembly District 21, a seat held by the termed-out Ira Ruskin.
District 21 includes San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
Conlon, with three decades as a businessman and certified public accountant, has served as president of the California Public Commission and as commissioner on the California Transportation Commission. The former Air Force pilot favors balancing a budget without tax increases, strengthening U.S. borders, continuing a presence in Iraq and Afghanistan until the job is done and improving education.
Gordon has been a church minister, an executive director of a nonprofit youth agency and, for the past 12 years, a member of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. He said, his first priority would be to reform how California is governed.
