Reid back at practice for 49ers

After suffering a concussion in Sunday's 29-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, 49ers rookie safety Eric Reid returned to practice on Wednesday, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reported.

Reid did not participate in any contact drills, but coach Jim Harbaugh said he hasn't suffered any setbacks since the injury.

"Pretty much what he said after the game, that he felt good, felt clear without any symptoms and that's remained the case," Harbaugh said.

The big-hitting safety was concussed on a play where he collided with the Seahawks' Sidney Rice.

Reid will still need to go through the NFL's required protocol before he can be cleared to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Meanwhile, tight end Vernon Davis (hamstring) and defensive lineman Ray McDonald (ankle), who were both also injured against the Seahawks, did not practice Wednesday. Harbaugh described Davis as day-to-day.

Colts add RB Richardson: The 49ers' defense has a new wrinkle to prepare for against the Colts this weekend. The Colts acquired running back Trent Richardson from the Cleveland Browns for a first-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. Richardson was drafted with the third overall pick in the 2012 draft. The Colts have Ahmad Bradshaw at running back, but had little else after Vick Ballard was lost for the season.

Another elite QB: Harbaugh's players are gearing up for a third top quarterback in as many weeks. Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay to open the season, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks on Sunday night and now Andrew Luck and the Colts.

"Excited to face one of coach Harbaugh's proteges," Niners linebacker NaVorro Bowman said. "It's really just No. 12, man, I feel like they feed off of him."
