Rec and Park finally talks to neighbors about bocce ball court

The first time park officials proposed to accept a gift of bocce ball courts at Justin Herman Plaza, only one commissioner voted against it because staff didn’t do any of its own outreach, even though she said she liked the idea.

Commissioners voted to accept the $61,000 gift from surrounding businesses and laborers, and sent it to the full Board of Supervisors where Supervisor David Chiu referred it to a committee because it needed more public conversation.

And now the Recreation and Park Department has set up a public meeting for the people who first heard about it during the commission hearing.

It’s scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Pier 1 in the Bayside Conference Room.
