A teenager is expected to be sentenced to probation Monday in connection with the brazen daylight gang shooting that injured five people in the mid-Market Street area this summer on Pink Saturday.

Terrell Blay, 18, of San Francisco and a 16-year-old boy, whose identity is not being released because he is a minor, were arrested shortly after the gunplay at Market and Seventh streets around 6:15 p.m.

The shooting happened on a festive day in San Francisco, about 2 miles from the annual Pink Saturday celebration. Prosecutors said the gunfire began when two rival gangs came into contact.

Last month, Blay pleaded guilty to a weapons charge in connection to the incident. Blay fled police after the shooting. A loaded gun, with a bullet in the chamber, fell from his leg, police said. On Monday, he is expected to be sentenced to probation after striking a deal with prosecutors. Blay claims that he did not fire his gun.

The 16-year-old boy, the alleged shooter, was charged with five counts of attempted murder, five counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and other gun charges.

The teenager has denied the allegations and is scheduled for a prehearing conference on Nov. 29.

Prosecutors could opt to try him as an adult, but have not publicly announced a decision.

Only one of the injured, a young man, had been targeted, police said. Injured bystanders included a San Francisco man, a visitor from England, a UC Santa Cruz student and an El Cerrito teenager, police said.
