President Barack Obama is flying into the Bay Area tonight, so commuters in downtown San Francisco and beyond should be prepared to experience some traffic delays.
The president is in the area for a two-day trip to raise cash for his party’s mid-term congressional elections, SF Weekly reports. He will attend a cocktail reception at Tom Steyer’s Pacific Heights mansion first before heading over to dinner at Ann and Gordon Getty’s house. Steyer was the billionaire who bankrolled last year’s Proposition 39.
Protesters are also expected to gather in Pac Heights at 5:45 p.m. to rail against the Keystone XL Pipeline.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority tweeted that the president’s visit will cause traffic disruptions in downtown San Francisco and that commuters should expect detours tonight and tomorrow.
Obama will head to Atherton tomorrow where he’ll have brunch with Medley Partners managing director Mark Heising and his wife before attending a luncheon with Levi-Strauss heir John Goldman, according the to San Jose Mercury News. The last time the president was in the Bay Area was in October.
