A suspect has been arrested in connection with the brutal beating of a 23-year-old Hayward man who tried to stop several preppy-looking punks from harassing women on Polk Street in January.
Raymon Abad, 27, of San Mateo turned himself in to police Friday, the day after cops publicly released a photo of him and a second suspect, Officer Carlos Manfredi said Monday.
Abad was booked into County Jail on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing serious bodily injury, Manfredi said. Police were still searching for the second suspect Monday.
The incident unfolded about 2 a.m. Jan. 29. The victim reportedly left a club with pals and saw a group of men aggressively hitting on uninterested women at Polk and Elm streets, police said. The Hayward man was allegedly attacked for trying to intervene.
The victim survived the beating, but doctors say he might not fully recover from his injuries.
