Not all there and a bag of chips? Transient accused of stealing toddler's snack

A 34-year-old man was arrested in Redwood City last week after he allegedly yanked on a woman’s hair and stole a bag of chips from the toddler she was baby-sitting, prosecutors said.

The peculiar episode unfolded Wednesday outside a supermarket, where a woman was standing with her 2-year-old son and a 3-year-old boy she was baby-sitting for a friend, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said the suspect, Brian Adam Christensen, a transient with a lengthy criminal record, approached and “without warning” pulled the woman by her ponytail and asked if she had a problem.

Christensen then allegedly grabbed the 3-year-old boy, who was sitting on a carousel, by the foot — nearly pulling him off the ride — and was kicked by the baby-sitter.

He then allegedly grabbed a bag of potato chips the boy was holding and walked off.

Police found Christensen nearby — with the chips, prosecutors said.

After his arrest, Christensen allegedly tried to head-butt an officer and spat at officers, while rambling bizarrely, according to prosecutors.

Christensen was arraigned in San Mateo County Superior Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree robbery, battery and resisting police, according to the District Attorney’s Office. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail.
