Niners not giving up on division title yet

The 49ers’ win Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks pushed their record to 9-4, ensuring a winning season for each of coach Jim Harbaugh’s three seasons in the NFL, and keeping Seattle that much farther from clinching the NFC West.

At 11-2, Seattle already has a playoff spot locked up, but San Francisco linebacker NaVorro Bowman said his team is still in the driver’s seat.

“This is still our division until somebody takes it from us,” he said.

The 49ers will need to win their final three games and hope for at least two losses by Seattle down the stretch to retain the crown they’ve held for the past two seasons.

The teams currently both have only one loss against NFC West opponents. Because the teams split the head-to-head series, the divisional record is the next tiebreaker. San Francisco plays one more divisional game — against the Arizona Cardinals in the season finale — and Seattle must still play both Arizona and the St. Louis Rams after playing the New York Giants next week.

A rematch in the playoffs is not out of the question, either.

“If we keep doing our thing and they keep doing their thing, no question,” 49ers running back Frank Gore said of a third meeting.
