Newsom speaks — via Twitter

Mayor Gavin Newsom actually said something publicly today — on Twitter.

The mayor, who has been giving the media the silent treatment for 12 days now, broke an equally unusual silence on Twitter Tuesday.
Newsom is known to love his Twitter account, having announced his candidacy for governor on the site and at one point using it almost daily to make announcements about his campaign or city initiatives.

But until Tuesday, he hadn’t peeped a word on Twitter since Oct. 28.

He also hasn’t spoken to the media on issues or made any public speeches since Oct. 30, the day he announced via press release that he was quitting the 2010 governor’s race.

To save you from connecting to his Twitter page, here’s the latest post:

“Hats off to the VA for supporting ‘Project Veterans Connect’ today — big success — a model program supporting homeless Vets,” the post said.

Later, Newsom tweeted: "Happy Veterans Day — personal note — thank you to my grandfather who was a prisoner of war (Corregidor) & all our brave men/women."

Hopefully the post means Newsom will soon crawl out of hiding.
