Newsom makes campaign funding push

Mayor Gavin Newsom cannot rely on the polls to give him a boost as Election Day nears.

Recent polling shows the mayor’s popularity is shrinking, which means Newsom must work harder to gain voter attention with campaign money in the race for lieutenant governor.

The mayor is known for his disdain of hitting up donors for cash but desperate times calls for desperate measures.

Newsom fired off a last minute email to his 30,000 strongest supporters, asking them for at minimum $5. The goal: to raise $150,000 by the end of Thursday -- the deadline for candidates to collect cash from donors.
