Neko Case is raffling off her Cougar

Neko Case may be a Grammy-nominated punk/alt-country/rockabilly kitten. But she’s also turning into quite the philanthropist.

In an unusual online raffle she’s dubbed the “Mercury Cougar-Rama Muscle Car-’Splosion,” the Anti-signed singer will be giving away her beloved 1967 Mercury Cougar, recently displayed prominently on the cover of her “Middle Cyclone” album.

Tickets are one for $45, two for $75, three for $100, ten for $250, and are available at www.nekocase.com or via the website of 826 National, the Dave Eggers/Ninive Calegari-launched literacy project it’s benefitting.

Case is also selling self-designed Pocketo T-shirts for the cause, and — during the raffle’s five-day run from Feb. 14 to Feb. 18 — will be offering one daily prize package, including an Anti catalog, Case’s limited-edition ’66 Gretsch Silver Duke, and a Gibson signed by members of The Speaking Clock Revue, like Elton John, Leon Russell, Elvis Costello and T Bone Burnett.

Sound exhausting? Don’t worry — if you do win that fab Cougar, it comes loaded with a year’s supply of Tazo Tea.
