Neil Young to headline children’s hospital benefit

Is there no end to Neil Young’s generosity?

Fresh from his annual Bridge School Benefit, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is donating more of his time this Wednesday at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco — along with Joanna Newsom and the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am — in a concert benefitting another great cause: The UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital at Mission Bay.

Young is headlining, of course, and the evening begins with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., the concert at 8, then a separate dessert reception afterwards.

Tickets aren’t cheap — they range from $250 for wheelchair seating to $1,000 for the coveted main floor — but it will most assuredly be worth it.

Already ranked by US News and World Report as one of the top children’s hospitals in the world, the new Benioff building — when completed in 2014 — will have 183 beds and even an onsite helipad for emergency cases.

Neil Young does, indeed, have a heart of gold.
