Muni trains delayed by signal problem at Powell Station

San Francisco Municipal Railway’s Muni Metro system is experiencing delays this afternoon because of a signal problem at Powell Station, according to the agency.

The problem began around 2:45 p.m. and was still causing outbound light-rail vehicles to travel at reduced speeds as of 3:50 p.m., Muni officials said.

Outbound trains are not receiving a signal to proceed through the subway tunnel, and can’t travel through the tunnel on automatic controls, said Muni spokesperson Kristen Holland.

They are traveling at reduced speeds while the operators use manual controls.

Crews are on the scene to investigate, but there is no estimate yet on how long it will take to repair the problem, Holland said.

Commuters are urged to take alternate routes wherever possible.
