Outbound service in Muni’s subway was slowed by heavy traffic during the Monday morning commute due to a mechanical problem, a spokesman said.
A cable controlling the signal lights within the subway was severed around 6 a.m. The problem forced outbound trains to run in manual mode, causing delays. To supplement the slower service, Muni was running shuttle buses outbound, spokesman Paul Rose said.
Muni originally reported that inbound service had been halted entirely. That was not the case, Rose said.
The severed cable was located between the Civic Center and Montgomery stations.
By 12:20 p.m., the damaged cable was fixed and normal outbound Muni service had resumed, Rose said.
