More movement on mayor’s staff

More changes are coming to Mayor Gavin Newsom’s staff.

Catherine Dodd plans to leave her post as the mayor’s deputy chief of staff overseeing health and human services, the Mayor’s Office said.

Beginning Oct. 5, Dodd will become interim director of The City’s Health Service System, filling the post following the resignation of Bart Duncan.

“When the HSS post became vacant -- about 10 days ago -- Catherine was immediately in the mix to take the helm because of her extraordinary background in health care policy,” said Mayor’s Office spokesman Nathan Ballard. “We hate to see her go because she’s been such a valuable member of our team in City Hall, but she will make an excellent HSS director.”

Before joining the mayor’s staff, Dodd was district chief of staff to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Prior to that, she was appointed by President Bill Clinton to serve as a regional director of health and human services.
