Montreal’s Simple Plan knows not to complicate things

Remember that whole wave of post-Green Day punks from a decade ago?

Watered-down wannabes like Hoobastank, Yellowcard and New Found Glory?

Some were swept away by the emo wave. And some of ’em are still out there, banging their spiky heads against the wall. And others, like Montreal’s shrewder Simple Plan, have matured, kept pace with the fast-moving times, and allowed their sound to expand accordingly.

Pierre Bouvier’s combo could have stayed frozen back in 2002, with their double-platinum zenith “No Pads, No Helmets ... Just Balls.” But on their adventurous new “Get Your Heart On!” they’ve invited guests like the rapper K’Maan, All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth, Natasha Bedingfield (on the single “Jet Lag”), and even Weezer mainman Rivers Cuomo (“Can’t Keep My Hands Off You,” recently featured in the Disney flick “Prom”).

The group has also established its own charity, The Simple Plan Foundation, dedicated to helping at-risk youth, plus children with life-threatening illnesses.

Pre-sale tickets for SPCrew fan club members will be released tomorrow for their upcoming tour, which hits our Regency Ballroom on Oct. 29. General-public ducats will be available this Friday via www.simpleplan.com, where fans can also purchase enhanced packages that include premium seats, a T-shirt, plus a deluxe live-album download. And you’ll also be helping the foundation; a dollar from every ticket goes directly to their cause.

Obviously, Simple Plan has survived for a reason.
