Michela Alioto-Pier drops out of state insurance commissioner race 

The San Francisco supervisor dropped out of her race for state insurance commissioner after recently suffering a leg injury requiring surgery. The demands of recovery, her job as supervisor and raising her three children prompted her to quit the race, her husband said. It’s unclear if she will attempt to fight a city attorney opinion that she’s serving her second term and cannot run for re-election.
