In a case prosecutors are calling an "ugly, violent crime," two alleged gang members are charged with barging into a San Mateo home, where they allegedly choked, raped and sodomized one of the men’s ex-girlfriends.
Ramirez and Pineda appeared in a Redwood City courtroom Monday, where they where they were appointed attorneys, and are expected to enter pleas June 24. They are each charged with attempted murder with premeditation, forcible rape, forcible sodomy, two counts of felony assault, one count of felony threats and one count of felony dissuading a witness.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said the victim had broken up with Ramirez in November and he had remained extremely jealous.
Prosecutors say the men came to the woman’s home Friday and pushed their way inside when she opened the door. Wagstaffe said the men dragged her to the bedroom and choked her into unconsciousness.
They allegedly revived the woman by pouring beer into her mouth, Wagstaffe said, and then ordered her to have sex with both of them at knifepoint.
"She was screaming and saying, ‘No, I’ll die before that happens,’" Wagstaffe said. Ramirez then allegedly raped and sodomized the woman before both men took pictures of her, he said.
Wagstaffe said the woman was exceptionally courageous.
"I give the victim real credit for coming forward," he said.
