Mayor Ed Lee stays on message on Occupy SF

Mayor Ed Lee is staying on message when it comes to Occupy SF. He stops short of giving a specific deadline, but says his message to the occupiers is strong and clear: get into compliance.

“They know that we are watching. The actions that I’ve taken in the last 48 hours indicate we will back it up,” Lee said outside of City Hall Thursday morning following a press conference about San Francisco Season of Giving campaign, which is a program to support nonprofits providing services for those in need.

Lee said the city will issue notices to the participants Thursday afternoon about being in non-compliance with city guidelines.

“I said yesterday that we needed a dramatic demonstration that they are going to comply with everything. We haven’t seen full compliance yet. So we’re giving the notices that we are required to do so that they again know that we are not easing off. We have to get that compliance because it is a health nuisance. So we are giving those notices out this afternoon.”

Lee said that the Occupy SF doesn’t have leadership "as solidified as we expected them to be by now."

They know that we are getting a lot more solidified in our view point and very more clear on what we expect them to do and that’s why we’ve been taking our steps moving forward.”

It’s unclear if Lee will call for a raid of the Occupy SF camp before the weeks end.  But Lee said: “They now are not in compliance and we have to get ourselves ready.”
