An East Palo Alto man has been charged with stabbing his friend in the neck during a drunken argument over who was more of a man.

Roberto Romero, 30, had been sharing two 12-packs of beer at Bell Street Park on the Fourth of July when the argument broke out, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said

“The angry suspect took out a knife and said he was going to cut the victim’s heart out,” San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

He then “slashed at the victim’s throat and stabbed him in the neck,” Wagstaffe added.

The victim fled screaming and was rushed to the hospital with three stab wounds to his neck. Romero, who pleaded not guilty to all charges Friday, denied stabbing the victim after his arrest, Wagstaffe said.
