Man struck in head in unprovoked Tenderloin attack

A man was struck in the head with a metal rod in an apparently unprovoked attack in the Tenderloin on Tuesday, police said.

The 54-year-old victim told police he was walking northbound at Jones and Turk streets around 4:40 p.m. when the suspect, described as a 52-year-old man, swung the metal rod at his head four times.

The victim was hit once in the forehead, police said, causing a laceration. He was treated at the scene for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The suspect was arrested when cops arrived at the scene, police said.
