Man shot in chest dies at hospital

The second homicide in four days, and the 60th of the year, struck Sunday morning when a man was discovered shot in the Bayview district.

An early-morning passer-by found 39-year-old Warren Foster Jr. bleeding in a driveway on Paul Avenue in the Bayview district around 6:20 a.m. Sunday. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest. Police are investigating whether a second, nonfatal shooting was related.

Sgt. Wilfred Williams said paramedics were immediately called, and Foster was pronounced dead when he arrived at San Francisco General Hospital.

A second man, unidentified by police, showed up at General Hospital around 11 a.m. with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening. The man was uncooperative and would not answer questions, but police believe his shooting may have occurred around Third Street and Quesada Avenue, about one mile from the location Foster was found.

Foster’s was the second homicide in four days. On Thursday, 14-year-old Mission High School sophomore Ivan Miranda was stabbed to death in the Excelsior district after he and a girl he was walking with were approached and attacked by four teenage boys.

Last Sunday, a man was left with life-threatening injuries after being shot in the Potrero Hill area.

All victims were taken to General Hospital, which last year saw 234 victims of gunshot wounds, twice the number from 2003.
