His dog days are over — literally.
A Redwood City man was sentenced to 30 days in county jail and ordered to attend anger management classes Friday for the ruthless assault on a leashed dog earlier this month.
John Abdon Johnson, 57, has also been denied the right to own or live with any animal after a cop on patrol saw him beat the pooch named “Bucket” over the head with his hand and kick it repeatedly in the ribs on May 13.
Johnson told the cop “that it was his dog and he could beat it if he wanted to,” San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Bucket was not his dog, Wagstaffe said.
After resisting arrest, Johnson was detained on misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
Johnson pleaded no contest to two counts Friday. He received 21 days credit on his jail sentence for time already served.
Thankfully, Bucket is alive and well and back with its actual owner, Wagstaffe said.
