Man robbed of medical marijuana on Haight Street

A man was robbed of an ounce of pot and a baggie of hash after leaving a medical marijuana dispensary in San Francisco on Tuesday, police said.

A crook ripped the pot from the 24-year-old victim’s hands around 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Haight Street, police said. The suspect, described only as a man between 18 and 20 years old, fled on foot.

The victim was not injured, police said.

There have been no arrests. Further information about the heist was not immediately available.

Robberies of patients leaving medical marijuana dispensaries have happened in the past, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said Tuesday.

However, “in my personal experience, I haven’t dealt with that recently,” Esparza said.

People have been known to call police when they are robbed while buying narcotics illegally on the streets, Esparza said.

“Criminals are opportunists,” he said. “[The suspect] probably saw an opportunity and ran with it.”
