  • A man is fighting for his life following an assault in the Western Addition Monday morning.

A man was critically injured during an assault in the Western Addition Monday morning that apparently occurred after he accused at least two thugs of robbing his sister, police said.

The attack was reported about 6:30 a.m. in the area of Gough Street and Golden Gate Avenue, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

According to a witness, Shyy said, a car pulled up and several suspects got out. The victim, who is in his 40s, accused the suspects of robbing his sister and then was attacked, the witness said.

At least one suspect struck the man in the head with a bottle during the assault, Shyy said.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with head trauma and remained in critical condition Tuesday.

No suspects are in custody, Shyy said, adding that investigators haven't been able to speak with the victim about the assault due to his injuries.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411 with "SFPD" in the message.
