Man arrested after Interstate 80 pursuit

A man was arrested early Saturday morning after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit on westbound Interstate Highway 80 from Fairfield all the way across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco, a CHP officer said.

The pursuit started shortly after 1:20 a.m. on westbound Interstate 80 near the off-ramp to westbound state Highway 12 where a CHP officer tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic, CHP Officer Mike Mines said.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his late 40s, refused to yield and continued driving west on I-80. CHP officers pursued the vehicle, which continued west across the Bay Bridge until it crashed on the Fremont Street off-ramp in San Francisco, Mines said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of evading police and driving under the influence, Mines said.
