We’re pretty sure Fox will be all over this, but the rich greenies in Malibu seem to be drawing the line at environmentalism when it comes to their tony beachfront properties.

The New York Post reports that Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Goldie Hawn and Pierce Brosnan are battling regulators who want to block them from dredging sand from the ocean floor to move the tide farther away from their infinity pools.

When the houses were built in the 1970s the tide was much farther out; now an emergency rock barrier has had to be erected to stem the encroaching water. Residents want to pay for the dredge themselves, but according to the Post, environmentalists say they are being hypocrites.

“They drive in Priuses and have the right bumper stickers,” an eco-activist tells the Post. “But they care more about their houses.”
