Getting to and from San Francisco International Airport is not the problem. Traveling light? Public transportation is easy. On a budget? Take a shared van, such as SuperShuttle. In a rush? Taxis will cost you, but they’re available 24/7 at a moment’s notice. Even biking to the airport is an option.

Now add limousines to your list, thanks to San Francisco-based Limos.com. As the world’s largest online marketplace for private car service, the company has partnered with more than 15,000 limousine companies worldwide.

It’s easy to use. Travelers can book ground transportation at Limos.com or via the company’s mobile app, which allows you to manage your car service from your iPhone or Android while on the road.

The listed prices include gratuity, so there are no surprises when you are picked up or dropped off. Even better, you can pre-book, pay via credit card and never have to worry about carrying cash, foreign currency or dealing with a taxi’s broken credit-card processor. Concerned about safety? The company pre-screens all of its operators and guarantees a $5 million insurance umbrella.

Last month, I made a three-city trip between San Francisco, New York and Washington — all using Limos.com for my ground transportation needs.

First, I booked all my limo needs about 24 hours before leaving. The application couldn’t be simpler. The company’s search engine then provides choices with rider ratings. Based partly on top-rider ratings, I chose a local provider — My Shofer — to transport me to SFO. The cost of the journey was a little more than a cab; one-way Lincoln Town Car service ran $64.

The few extra dollars were well worth it. When I call a taxi, I have to hold for a dispatcher and then hope that my taxi arrives on time. Limos.com emailed me a reservation confirmation, including the limo company’s telephone number. Next, I received a confirmation email an hour before pickup, which reminded me that the driver would meet me outside my location. My credit card was charged a small portion of the fare to reserve the car. The next day, my driver arrived about 10 minutes early, and we were on the road exactly when I wanted to leave.

When I got to John F. Kennedy Airport, I had requested an in-airport pickup, a service that costs an extra $15. My midnight flight arrived about a half-hour early, so I was at the curb before my driver arrived. After I used my confirmation email to call the local service and let it know I was early, we decided it would be easier and faster for me to wait curbside. The company waived the $15 fee as a result.

For the last leg of my journey, I needed a car to transport me from SFO to home. The SF Bay Car Service driver texted me as I was at baggage claim to let me know that he was waiting for me in the waiting lot. Once I got my bags, I texted him to let him know I was at the Virgin America pickup area in Terminal No. 3. He arrived in two minutes.
