Leland Yee introduces legislation to protect social media passwords

Local state Sen. Leland Yee introduced a bill to protect social media profiles from employers.

SB 1349 would stop employers from demanding user names and passwords for employees or applicants to popular social media sites such as Twitter or Facebook.

A growing number of businesses have been doing so around the country. The bill also would prohibit the practice in California’s public and private universities.
