Lady Gaga is getting flak for trying to manipulate her chart position by offering prizes to whomever buys, views or has the most radio requests of her single “Applause.”
The two lucky Little Monsters who have the biggest numbers will be flown to London to meet her. Billboard’s Bill Werde initially tweeted about Gaga “gaming the system” but then seemed to soften his criticism only to “playlisting.”
“By ’playlisting’ I mean a link to ’watch’ the same video 150 times,” he tweeted.
Gaga reportedly posted said link on her Twitter but later took it down, according to The Huffington Post.
2. By "playlisting" I mean a link to "watch" the same video 150 times: roughly 9 straight hours of the same vid.— Bill Werde (@bwerde) August 21, 2013
The real questionable part of her publitz-blitz is the idea of kids using their allowance to buy multiple copies of her single in the vain hope of being able to meet her. That’s sad.
