Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci flies solo with Big Talk

What’s sauce for the goose, they say, is also sauce for the gander.

So you can’t blame Killers drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. — who’s actually a talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist — for getting a bit restless during the band’s recent sabbatical, wherein frontman Brandon Flowers flew solo with “Flamingo.”

So on July 12, via punk imprint Epitaph, the percussionist will be issuing his own side project, Big Talk. The eponymous record’s first single “Getaways” hit iTunes this week, and you can preorder the debut at www.epitaphstore.com.

Naturally, the Joe Chicarelli-produced, Alan Moulder-engineered “Getaways” has a poppy Killers edge, with Vannucci’s own idiosyncratic personality shining through. And it’s definitely his vision represented throughout, ably abetted by ex-Weezer bassist Matt Sharp and his longtime guitarist chum, Taylor Milne. And if you paid close attention to Killers credits, you’d know that the guy has often had a hand in the songwriting, on standards like “Bones,” “Spaceman” and “Somebody Told Me.” He also contributed to the recent Keane/Mumford & Sons side combo Mt. Desolation.

Keep on the Vannucci beat at www.bigtalkmusic.com.
