FRIDAY

On the town

Improv theater: "Awkward Dinner Party" is back. A couple and their dinner guest reveal uncomfortable truths in this improvised play. [8 p.m., Stage Werx, 446 Valencia St., S.F.]

SATURDAY, JULY 6

A great hike

Pomo on parade: Sonoma Coast State Park's Shell Beach is easily accessed by car, but we've got a much better route via a peaceful 3-mile (one-way) hike showcasing the region's best features: redwoods, rivers, coastline and pocket beaches. You'll weave through a forest dappled in sunlight before making an ascent that tops out at a terrific vista of the Russian River emptying into the Pacific. Don't miss the view from the lone picnic table 100 feet off the trail on a small hill. Drop down the coast-hugging hills to reach Shell Beach.
