Jail guard charged with accepting iPad bribe

A Seal Beach city jail guard has pleaded not guilty to accepting an iPad and other items from inmates in exchange for favors.

Orange County prosecutors say 32-year-old Jose Alday entered not guilty pleas Tuesday to felony charges of receiving bribes and possession for sale of a controlled substance. He also pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Alday allegedly took bribes from one inmate on multiple occasions between July 1 and Dec. 25.

Prosecutors say the bribes also included leather jackets and a cell phone.

In return, he's accused of allowing unsearched visitors to enter the jail for unauthorized contact with the inmate.

If convicted, Alday faces a maximum sentence of five years in state prison.

He is being held on $100,000 bail.
