Intruder at Tobias may be recent flasher

An intruder snuck his way into a girls bathroom at Marjorie Tobias Elementary School, and police think that he may be the same man who exposed himself to a Westmoor High School student last week.

At 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the suspect crawled underneath a locked restroom stall and stood in frontof a pre-teenaged girl while she was using the bathroom, Daly City police said. Nothing of a sexual nature occurred between the student and suspect as the girl let out a "blood-curdling scream," Lt. Jay Morena said.

The suspect then unlocked the stall door, walked away and was seen escaping by an adult teacher.

The suspect is described as white or Hispanic, age 20 to 25, 5 feet 8 inches or 5 feet 9 inches and 170 pounds. He was unshaven with short black hair, prominent acne scars and distinctively large, puffy lips.

At the time, he was wearing a gray sweatshirt, dark jeans and white sneakers, Morena said.

"It’s obviously of major concern to law enforcement and the school district," Morena said.

In response, students went over the "stranger danger" protocol and cannot go to the bathroom unaccompanied, said Dr. Barbara Wilson, superintendent of Jefferson School District. The district also increased yard-duty supervision at the school.

A number of doors at Tobias have now been locked and the Fire Department is going to gate off a back stairway — the same one the suspect escaped down, Wilson added.

The rendering of the suspect has been circulated to all schools in the district as well as the Jefferson Union High School District and Bayshore School District, Wilson said.

"Let’s catch this guy," she said.

Police believe the suspect to be the same man who on Friday solicited sex for money and exposed himself to a female Westmoor High School student on the 700 block of Southgate Avenue.

Tobias is at 725 Southgate, and the fact that the suspect wasn’t in a car has the police guessing that he lives or works in the area, Morena said. Police are asking community members to be on the lookout at places like bus stops. The suspect does not match any of the registered sex offenders in Daly City.
