Herbivore catches attention of peta2

Megan Rondeau, the special projects coordinator for peta2, the youth division of PETA, talks about San Francisco vegan restaurant Herbivore, a Best Local Restaurant nominee for the fifth annual Libby Awards. Voting ends Dec. 16. To cast your vote, go to peta2.com.

What is peta2?
Peta2 is the youth division of PETA. We work with high school and college students on issues that are important to them, like having vegan options in their cafeteria or cruelty-free dissections in their labs. We also work with bands, celebrities and athletes to get them involved.

What are the Libby Awards?
Libby is short for liberation, and it’s a chance for us to honor animal-friendly people, celebrities and companies who have gone out of their way for animal rights. We also honor restaurants like Herbivore, clothing companies and makeup companies who are cruelty-free.

Why was Herbivore nominated? We take into consideration the feedback we get on our message board, Facebook and MySpace all year. We hear all the time how amazing Herbivore is and it has already won hometown awards like Best of the Bay. They have an amazing menu where you can find healthy, flavorful vegan options that help spread the cruelty-free message.
