Heartless hoodlums beat, rob panhandler in Mission district attack

Talk about kicking a man while he’s down.

A 41-year-old panhandler in the Mission district was robbed, kicked, shoved to the ground and dragged a half-block Tuesday, according to police.

Three heartless thugs were apparently angry that the panhandler had begged a woman for change in the area of 24th and Alabama streets about 5:20 p.m., police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

After she handed over the change, the thugs “suddenly appeared” and commanded the victim to get out of their neighborhood, Andraychak said.

The suspects then kicked the man about four times, pushed him onto the pavement and dragged him before snatching his wallet and cash. The suspects fled and had not been found as of Wednesday, police said.

The victim suffered a bump to his head from being thrown to the ground. Medics treated him at the scene and the injury was not life-threatening, Andraychak said.
