  • Queasy rocker: Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day was hospitalized in Italy briefly over the weekend, reportedly due to “gastric” issues.

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong was rushed to the hospital in Italy “due to illness” (rumor has it that it was “gastric” in nature) and had to cancel the band’s show Sunday.

Ashen bandmates Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt appeared on video and seemed to take the change in plans very hard, somberly apologizing to fans and saying they were “beyond devastated” that they had to bow out of the I-Festival in Bologna and that it “sucks.”

The singer has since recovered and been released, and the band swears that it will come back next year and make it up to everyone.

We’re just glad Billie Joe is OK, and that The Hague didn’t have to get involved. Wake us up when September ends.

Rock ribs republicans

It’s election season, and that means it’s time for the GOP to rack up those cease-and-desist notices from lefty rockers.

Tom Petty put Michele Bachmann in her place last year for using his “American Girl,” and now the Mitt Romney presidential campaign has received a letter from a lawyer for the Silversun Pickups, who didn’t appreciate his use of the song “Panic Switch.”

For the record, lyrics like “but the red views keep ripping the divide” might not play well to the people in the blue states.

Some musicians are down with the Repubs, though. Last week, Hank Williams Jr. announced at a concert, “We’ve got a Muslim for a president who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays  ... and we hate him.”

OK, that’s not much of a surprise, but here’s one: freaky-deaky pop superstar Nicki Minaj came out with the following lyrics on the latest Lil’ Wayne mixtape: “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches is f------ up the economy.”

Day-amn!

No word yet on any upcoming rap-off between Nicki and Jon Voight.
