Goo Goo Dolls to rock Masonic Auditorium

Weren’t we just talking about radio station Christmas concerts?

They’re not over just yet, folks — Star 101.3 has scheduled its annual Jingle Ball this Friday at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium, and they’ve brought in one hell of a heavy hitter — Buffalo, New York’s hard-rocking Goo Goo Dolls, for a show that begins at 8 p.m.

The trio will be backing its great new album “Something For The Rest Of Us,” which they painstakingly sculpted until every hook rang like a cathedral bell.

Bandleader John Rzeznik has a theory about songwriting. “The longer you go, and the more songs you write, the harder it is to keep going,” he says. “But you need to keep moving, or tell yourself ‘OK, I’ve gotta make a left turn here.’ I can get really wonky about the whole thing, but sometimes we’ll sit and listen to a song and just go ‘Nah, that’s another song — we’ve gotta throw that one out.’ Because honestly, there are only so many chords that go together. But being clever about how you present them? That can make a song completely new.”
