Gilroy slaying suspect arrested

A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting in July of a Gilroy man was arrested Monday at the Mexican border, Gilroy police said.

Fernando Minero, 24, of Gilroy, was arrested by the Department of Homeland Security at the San Ysidro border crossing in San Diego County on suspicion of killing Martin Rojas, 21, on July 22, police said.

On July 22, Rojas turned up at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy around 8:30 p.m. suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Minero will be extradited to Santa Clara County to face charges.
