Four more women have come forward saying they were victimized by a man posing as a doctor in the Mission district who is accused of performing dangerous cosmetic surgeries, along with sexual crimes against some patients, prosecutors said Monday.

Carlos Guzmangarza, 49, was arrested in December and remains in custody. Prosecutors said he has no medical license, yet ran a clinic on Mission Street and impersonated an actual doctor with a similar name. He was accused at the time of performing a cheap liposuction on a woman — during which he smoked a cigar and had her hold the IV bag — and later coming to her home to flush 6 pounds of her fat down the toilet. The woman’s abdomen later became infected, prosecutors said.

Guzmangarza also allegedly administered injections to cure the woman’s daughter’s facial acne. Last month, prosecutors said another woman accused him of groping her during an exam.

Prosecutor Evan Ackiron intended to file new charges Monday, but the hearing was postponed until Friday because Guzmangarza’s attorney was unavailable.

Outside court, Ackiron said four more women, who had procedures done in the past three years, had made allegations.
“They all came forward since the news accounts,” Ackiron said.

The women had gone to Guzmangarza for facelifts and work on their lips and buttocks, and while some were satisfied with the work, one woman’s surgery was botched, Ackiron said.

Further, one woman alleged Guzmangarza sexually penetrated her with his finger, Ackiron said.

Guzmangarza — who was already facing multiple charges of practicing medicine without a license, assault, false impersonation, identity theft and grand theft — could now face 17 new counts, prosecutors said.

Ackiron plans to ask for bail to be raised from $860,000 to $1.14 million. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 9, but it could be delayed in light of the new charges.
