Fisherman tries to fillet security guard, not fish at San Francisco's Pier 80

A violent fisherman threatened a security guard with a knife after being asked not to fish off the rocks at San Francisco’s Pier 80 on Sunday, police at Bayview Station said.

The security guard, who worked for a business at Pier 80, told two fishermen around 4:45 p.m. that they were on private property and could not fish there due to civil liability.

He asked them to go fish from the public park.

The suspects refused. When the guard pulled out his cell phone to call the police, one of the suspects smacked the phone from his hands, causing the battery to dislodge as the phone smashed on the ground, San Francisco police said. The suspect then whipped out a knife.

The guard left the scene to call cops. SFPD arrived “just in time” to stop a car containing the suspects. The guard positively identified them, and a knife was located in one of the fishermen’s pockets.

The knife-wielding fisherman was arrested and booked on numerous charges including an outstanding warrant, police said. His fishing partner was cited and released.
