The fire broke out about 1:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the six-floor building at 350 Judah St., near Ninth Avenue, according to fire dispatchers. American Red Cross spokeswoman Cynthia Shaw said the agency was providing hotel housing for one family and food and clothing for two other families, for a total of six people. Others returned home.

Silhouettes could be seen in windows lit with Christmas lights Sunday afternoon, while other windows were shrouded in plastic where glass had broken.
