Powerade apparently really does pack a punch.

A man accused of being an electrolytes-craving crook was subdued by police after reportedly punching multiple people in the street early Tuesday then shoplifting a bottle of Powerade.

Derek R. Taylor, 36, of Livermore was arrested about 1:40 a.m. in the 2300 block of Market Street, Officer Albie Esparza said.

Taylor had allegedly assaulted passers-by at the corner of 18th and Castro streets. Though unarmed, Esparza said, Taylor “liked punching people.”

The Powerade was allegedly swiped from a store on Market Street. During that incident, he attempted to punch the clerk. The victim blocked the attack and was reportedly uninjured, Esparza said.

Taylor also successfully landed a couple of hits on officers, but they eventually took him into custody.
