Decision on banning Happy Meal toys postponed

The Board of Supervisors scheduled vote on legislation that would ban toys in Happy Meals is being postponed. Supervisor Eric Mar, who introduced the legislation, issued a statement about the reason for the delay. “I will be continuing the vote from Tuesday, Oct. 19, to Nov. 2nd as we continue to do the technical research and meet with stake holders to create a strong implementation timeline that is feasible for San Francisco restaurants,” Mar said.

Others said the postponement comes amid pressure being applied to Supervisor Bevan Dufty to support the legislation to ensure it could withstand a mayoral veto. It takes eight votes to overturn a mayor’s veto.
