A Daly City woman pleaded not guilty Monday to charges stemming from a frightening drunken driving incident over the weekend in which her truck slammed into a Pacifica bar and pinned a victim, prosecutors said.
Carla Jean Andres, 49, allegedly drank beer and shots at Winters Tavern at 1522 Francisco Blvd. until the 2 a.m. closing hour on Saturday.
According to police, she climbed into her Chevy truck while intoxicated, but struggled to make a u-turn.
Witnesses talking outside the bar said they saw her struggle. One man went over to the truck and told Andres to park and that he would call her a taxi, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Andres parked the truck in a spot in front of the bar, waited briefly, then witnesses “heard her rev the truck engine and shoot forward,” Wagstaffe said.
The truck sideswiped several witnesses and struck the bar, police said. One victim was pinned by the truck, they said.
The suspect and victims were taken to the hospital. None of the injuries were serious, Wagstaffe said.
Andres was arrested. She faces felony charges of DUI with an enhancement for causing injuries. She has a past conviction for driving while intoxicated, which could have her facing heightened penalties if she is convicted in Saturday’s incident.
Andres remains in custody on $75,000 bail, Wagstaffe said.
