WHAT: After last week’s blizzard in the mid-South, dozens of Greyhound passengers were stuck in the downtown Memphis, Tenn., bus terminal all weekend. Many claimed the staff snapped at them for asking when travel would resume, and there were none of the free meal vouchers customary during forced trip layovers.
BLACKOUT: When a TV news crew interviewed one stranded passenger, a security guard threatened to not let her back inside the station. And, in fact, he did lock her out to wait for her bus in the frigid night air.
WHY: Especially mystifying to the stranded passengers was why buses were leaving for wintry northern locations such as Chicago, but not going to seemingly easier destinations such as St. Louis and Omaha, Neb.
