Contract amendment for eyebar plans approved by committee

A $1 million contract amendment to improve response procedures in the wake of any further structural failures on the Bay Bridge was moved forward on Wednesday.

The focus of the contract was on the span’s eyebars, the main support network for the 74-year-old bridge. By approving the $1 million amendment with engineering firm TYLin International, the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA), which oversees seven local spans, will now have immediate design plans ready for a replacement assemblage in case another eyebar snaps.

The contract passed committee on Wednesday and will go for final approval before the full BATA Board later this month.
