Community meeting on Masonic Avenue problems scheduled

The third and final community meeting regarding traffic-calming solutions on Masonic Avenue will take place next week.

The thoroughfare has long been a traffic nightmare for pedestrians, motorists and bicyclists, as evidenced by the Aug. 13 hit-and-run incident that left a young German tourist dead.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which manages traffic in The City, has offered up to four separate solutions to help better manage the flow of travelers on the throughway. Potential plans include removal of parking spots, fewer lanes and dedicated bike paths.

On Sept. 30, the SFMTA will hold a public hearing to gather feedback on its various proposals. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the San Francisco Day School on 350 Masonic Ave.
