Committee OKs bill to crackdown on troubled venues

The Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee approved on Monday legislation that would empower the Entertainment Commission with the ability to revoke the permits of venues with a history of public safety problems. It’s a power the commission did not previously have, but Board of Supervisors President David Chiu said is necessary for the commission to be able to effectively regulate the entertainment industry.

The proposal would require approval by the full board to become law and go into effect.
