Bayview residents can weigh in tonight on the search for a new police chief.
The police commission is currently looking at applicants to possibly replace interim Chief Jeff Godown, who took over in January when former Chief George Gascon moved two floors down at the Hall of Justice to become district attorney.
The commission has been holding meetings seeking input from the public on what kinds of qualities they’d like in a police chief.
Tonight’s meeting in the Bayview, where violent crime has been a particular concern, takes place at 6 p.m. at the Southeast Community Facility at 1800 Oakdale Ave.
The commission received 75 applications from both internal and external candidates, and later narrowed the list down to 24, according to commission president Thomas Mazzucco.
The candidate list has since been winnowed down further, and the commission will be conducting interviews in early March in order to submit up to three names to Mayor Ed Lee by March 15, Mazzucco said.
